I will be frank, I liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Only a few clicks and a customer can put an order with a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a cost. A large one.
This is one the very few freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way that they like.
Why? Since Fiverr turn a blind eye on it.
In this post, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Normal Order Instantly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I have been guiding her building up a respectable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above every last purchase. Everything mentioned is that her doing, I'm only an audience )
In this case, she had only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... or so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (which is usually part of the pricier package).
The customer"loved" one of the concepts and so we proceeded to ship her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description. Soon afterwards, things got a little bizarre.
The customer came back requesting a social networking kit to go with the emblem, something which is obviously not offered as part of her gig.
Against my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the extra work, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with more requirements and some adjustments to the social networking files.
At this time, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the customer went from only overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to contemplate a reply and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the customer did eventually go right ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was Fiverr Review - Pros and Cons from a Fiverr Buyer & Seller - Jay Soriano not kidding.
Shortly after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support question, the client paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Of course, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so that I could punch them from the face.
However, in the time, I had hope that Fiverr service could step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told that they couldn't Fiverr: Get More Sales & Reviews on Fiverr like Top Sellers Udemy induce the buyer to accept the purchase.
Okay, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a list for the purchaser to reveal the job was completed in accordance to the gig prerequisites.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the client was trying to extort her for free work out the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative review if she didn't comply.
Naturally, it was not really about the work, it had been about seeking protection in an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing their luck.
Their answer didn't offer More about the author either of us any confidence that Fiverr really understood that, and even in this stage we felt as though they didn't wish to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments that has been clearly and blatantly left to intimidate her into providing work out of the agreed provisions )
An honest request by anyones standards, correct? Well, apparently not.
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr immediately turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Since she'd asked the customer to modify their opinions, she was no more eligible for any help from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done prior to her last message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened at all.
Fiverr basically decided to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain on an account she had worked so tough to accumulate.
If everything that happened was not troubling enough, it's knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors with no shred of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
But as all of this was occurring, I did a little investigating to find out if any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.
Quite quickly, I found a variety of almost equal cases on the Fiverr forum obsolete years back. (that's correct, years.)
This is clearly something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from providing buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I have learned about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how long you put into a project, or how hard you've worked on itor maybe how long you handled communication in a dispute, if it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it's a clear cut situation in your favor, there's still every chance the customer will come out on top. It takes it one tiny thing you"did no way" in accordance with their own conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it is obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet remains keen to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, then I implore you to seriously reconsider your present support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can place all the time and effort in to establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, only to be shot down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I really don't wish to leave Fiverr. I really don't wish to be telling folks to avoid your platform.
But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any decision.
Until something is done to safeguard freelancers from using this sort of abuse, I will continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to stop others from falling victim to your one-sided support staff.
The second you actually do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight , I'll be more than happy to update the article.
