I'll be honest, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a client can place an order with a freelancer according to a specific set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A major one.
That is one the couple freelance platforms in which buyers are given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail sellers any way that they like.
Why? Since Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I want to share a recent bad experience for a seller on Fiverr, also I chose to give up on the platform entirely.
(I've been advising her on building a respectable accounts, and how to go above and beyond with every last purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an audience )
In this case, she had just gotten another $5 sequence on her emblem gig, which appeared to be like another... so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (which is usually part of the pricier bundle ).
The customer"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to ship her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the gig description.
The client came back requesting a social networking kit to decide on the emblem, something that is obviously not offered as a member of her post.
In my advice, my girlfriend decided to provide the additional work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
After that, the customer responded with much more requirements and a few alterations to the social networking files.
At this point, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
This is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach out to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go on and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was Fiverr Review – The Hyper and Fun Way of Making Money Online not kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support question, the customer paid an additional $10 to your social media kit.
Obviously, the payment has been accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and hunt this person down so that I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr service will step in and rescue my girlfriend out of this PITA client.
After the answer came from Fiverr support, they told that they couldn't Why Fiverr Sucks for Freelancers - EngageWP induce the buyer to accept the order.
Okay, that's reasonable enough. (Even though the buyer accepted it.)
They also suggested drawing up a list for the buyer to reveal the job has been done in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
Honestly, this reply simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email that the customer was trying to extort her for free work outside the agreed periods, by making a negative review if she did not comply.
Naturally, it wasn't really about the job, it was all about seeking protection against an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing his luck.
Their reply didn't offer either of us some assurance that Fiverr actually knew that, and even in this point we felt as though they did not wish to get involved.
At the same time, she responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this will be feedback that has been clearly and intentionally made to bully her into supplying work outside of the agreed conditions )
A fair petition by anyones standards, right? Well, apparently not.
Instead of acknowledge what the buyer had done up until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all of the rules.
Because she'd requested the customer to change their feedback, she was no more eligible for some assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt reading this.
What the purchaser had said and done prior to her final message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened in any way.
Fiverr essentially decided to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so tough to build up.
If everything that occurred wasn't troubling enough, it's knowing that this man or woman is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers without a shred of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing exactly this special info on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
But as most this was happening, I did some investigating to determine whether any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Quite quickly, I found a variety of nearly equal cases about the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's correct, years.)
This is obviously something which's been happening for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers also much power over sellers.
If there's one thing I have learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Regardless of how long you put into a project, or how hard you've worked on it, or perhaps how well you handled communication in a dispute, even as it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out at the top. All it takes it one tiny thing that you"did wrong" according to their own conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Taking a look at the evidence, it's obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet is still eager to settle back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your existing support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can set all the time and effort into establishing an account and over-delivering at every conceivable chance, only to be shot down by the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I do not wish to abandon Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling people to prevent your system.
But after everything that's occurred, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from this type of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this article and do whatever I can to stop others from falling prey to a one-sided support staff.
The second you actually do something about it and give freelancers a means to fight back, I'll be happy to update this article.
